Tasted by a 1/3 pint at a local JDW, The Capitol, at Forest Hill, SE London. Served by a handpump w/o a sparkler.
A: dark russet brown in colour, the this white foam seems to last, on top of low carbonation.
S: the smell upfront is reminiscent of a premium bitter, added with caramelised berry-fruits, herbal hops, and a hay-ish stinky edge as of earthy Fuggles... pretty pleasant but not quite assertive.
T: bitter-sweet dark malts and dark stone-fruits abound, resting on a profound fruity-hoppy undernote with a touch of walnuts... the deepening bitterness of dried tea-leafy hops as well as of roastiness at the back leads towards a rather chewy mouthfeel in the end.
M&D: soft and smooth on the palate, med-bodied; actually this porter is apparently much more bitter than an ordinary porter, making this a rather more-ish pint.
