To set the scene: The jolly lable features a simple cartoon of Santa Claus standing on a snowy rooftop, leaning over a chimney pot lowering gifts and meanwhile his trousers are falling down. (You get the festive scene!).
L- Deep chestnut, clear, pours with 2mm white head.
S- Deeply roasty-toasty.
T- Quite a pungent flavour, from deep roasted malted grain. It's certainly of a winter-warmer style, though the bold/deep hops do a good job of masking outright signalling from the 7.0% ABV
F- Pungent and deep, perhaps one for colder months.
O- The shouldered bottle gives a lovely 'Glug-glug-glug' on the pour. Overall very nice indeed, for those who want a boldly full-flavoured darker real ale. Nothing out of place or balance to be seen here, the lable might resemble a jolly Xmas card scene, but this is certainly a seriously accomplished bold gem of a beer.
£3.69/500ml bottle from Bacchanalia Mill Road, Cambridge. BBE: April 2021
