A contract brew for Pinchinthorpe Hall, which features a range of bottle-conditioned organic beers. BB 07/2007, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.
A: pours a murky, dark yellowish straw colour, almost like a scrumpy cider; the carbonation comes really fierce... giving all the stamina for the huge souffle-like white tight froth to build up, then it (almost) never retreats...
S: bitter grapefruit-zests, dustiness, and spicy/nutmeg-yeasts upfront, apparently due to the bottle-conditioning yeast sediments... after the long, several-good-minute wait for the froth to settle down a little, there comes more grapefruity hops and vanilla-ish exotic yeasts from the beer; woody-bitter, dry, with a mild touch of (Belgian) pale malts - somehow Orval comes to mind?!
T: the first sip gives strong hints of bitter zesty hops, yet the texture is surprisingly soft and creamy, in contrast to the lively appearance; the subtle aroma of chewy pale malts soon follows, hand in hand with an underlying stream of bitter-spices... not so much bitter as zesty-dryish and tangy in the long but rather neutrally-flavoured finish.
M&D: as mentioned above, the palate is really creamy and soft, not fizzy or too lively at all; this is a light-bodied, chewy and yeasty bitter. Being easy-drinking and showing some complexity due to the yeastiness, however, the overall performance lacks something to give my palate a kick... Still, this is a decent attempt of bottle-conditioning from a micro, well worth anyone's support!
