A 500ml bottle with a BB of July 2013. Acquired ages ago from a supermarket in Hartlepool. Bottle conditioned, and presumably named for the Middlesborough football team.
Poured into a straight pint glass. A deep orange-amber colour with good carbonation and a ton of chunky floating sediment. Forms a large head of creamy white foam with decent retention; this slowly subsides to a thick surface layer. Aroma of faint caramel malt with weak hints of earthy yeast and stewed leaves. A twinge of staleness in the background. Pretty bland.
Tastes of weak malt with a yeasty character and a dry finish. Notes of watery caramel, earthy yeast and faint stewed leaves. Possesses an overall staleness, with a harsh dryness in the background. Mild bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with decent carbonation and reasonable body. Rather astringent, with an aftertaste of acrid stewed leaves and earthy yeast.
Bah - not very impressive. Doesn't look brilliant and the aroma and flavour are lacklustre, even without the off-notes. The only caveat is that I've had this bottle for a long time, which probably hasn't improved the beer. Not a great tipple, but if I come across it again in the future I may re-review a fresher example. Give it a miss.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
