Helsinki 23/5 2016. 50 cl can from S-Market. Very red can with a howling rooster.

Pours clear golden yellow with a white head. Settles as a thin layer of foam with lacing on the side of the glass.

Aroma is sweet. A little caramel in there together with some wet cardboard. Quite grainy apart from that with some lightly sour notes.

Low carbonation and slightly thick palate. Oily and almost flat.

Flavor has an okay balance between malty sweetness and bitterness. Fairly unpleasant bitter-sour aftertaste with some burnt rubber thrown in.

Not an altogether pleasant experience - but I like the red can with the rooster.

Brief impressions from a 50cl can in Kuopio, Finland:

A: Healthy foamy off-white head is frothy as hell, evoking a lively beer. Body colour is a clear weak copper-amber. Retention is nice - ~6 minutes.

Sm: Caramalts, passionfruit from the hops, pale malts, amber malts, vague fruit.

Aromatic intensity is average. Suggests an interesting brew with a fairly straightforward flavour profile.

T: Amber malt, caramalt, bread crust, pale malts, floral hop notes, passionfruit, and fruity hop notes.

Decently balanced, but not impressively so. Has some cohesion, anyway. But the build isn't gestalt, deep, or intricate.

Mf: Medium-bodied, smooth, wet, and somewhat refreshing, albeit overcarbonated. Moderate thickness.

O: Certainly drinkable, but not a remarkable beer in its style. Laitilan consistently disappoints, but this is the rare exception - in that it's average. I'd get it on-draught if only to go into more detail about the beer - because it does boast more complexity than is reflected in the notes above - but by no means will it impress the drinker.
