Double chocolate and a pinch of dried chilli. The first
mouthful is super chocolatety, as this is unfiltered, like
all our ales, and that’s the chocolate you see.

Purchased at the source in March 2026 and drunk in May that year.
L: A muddy, chocolatey-black in the glass, with a fluffy, tan-coloured head that quickly recedes to the edges of the glass.
S: The main note I picked up was cherries, which seems strange since the beer has no cherries, cherry flavouring, or any mention of cherry on the can! There is milk chocolate and cocoa, and it's possible, on further consideration, that what I'm thinking is cherry is the play of chilli on the sweet chocolate base.
T: The taste is rich chocolate, and - I swear - cherry, with a touch of vanilla and soft cocoa powder, almost exactly how I'd want a premium cherry chocolate ice cream to taste. There is the slightest lick of heat that builds retronasally, eventually becoming a pleasant warmth in the chest and throat. The aftertaste is rich, just managing to stay this side of too-sweet.
M: The mouthfeel is quite thick and luscious, as expected from a beer styled as a chocolate chilli dark ale. Carbonation is dialled back, but is perfectly in synch with the flavour profile.
O: Despite my having cherry on the brain in a non-cherry beer, this is a nice, somewhat decadent beer that is screaming to be drunk with a chocolate dessert.
Cheers!

Format: solid brown 330mL bottle with a very stylish (and cute) label. I particularly like the "Does not contain any real sex" label.
Appearance: dark brown tending toward black - heavy looking body. Per the Red Duck norm, fine sediment throughout the profile, one-finger tan head disappears over a minute or so - leaves a good bit of lace.
Aroma: disappointingly minimal on the nose - just the faintest whiff of milk chocolate. Reasonable, just quite mild.
Taste: makes up entirely for the lack of aroma. A subtle yet mouth-filling combination of heavy sweet chocolate and a treacle / molasses flavours. Very nice.
Aftertaste: lingers around for quite a while, and some cocoa bitterness comes through as well. Fantastic!
Mouth feel: medium in body with a lower- to- moderate carbonation. Suits the style well, and the fine sediment adds an extra dimension to the flavour / texture of the profile. A fantastic feel.
Overall: a good Australian take on the English Porter - nice dose of sweet chocolate, couldn't find the chilli at all though. Worth the AU$75 a case price.
