Sourced directly from the brewery in March 2026 and opened three weeks later. This is a limited 20th Anniversary release.
L: Not a pretty pour. It has a hazy, dull, and somewhat muddy orangey-brown colour that, unfortunately, looks a bit oxidised right out of the gate. While it sports a big, fluffy off-white head, the liquid itself is so murky that you can’t see any carbonation. It lacks that vibrant, juicy glow you want from the style.
S: The nose is a real head-scratcher. Instead of the expected tropical hop burst, I’m getting heavy notes of plums and stewed prunes. There’s also a faint Band-Aid scent in the mix that is quite off-putting for an IPA. It’s an aromatic profile I’ve never encountered in a Hazy before, and frankly, it’s not particularly inviting.
T: It certainly lives up to the "Imperial" name in terms of sheer weight. This is a big, bold, and very bitter beer. The flavour starts with a hint of stone fruit, but that’s quickly shoved aside by a harsh, chalky, and sharp citric bitterness. As you swallow, it leaves a lingering sweetness and a very noticeable boozy warmth that spreads through your chest. The combination of that aggressive citrus "bite" and the soft fruit flavours just doesn't quite harmonise.
M: The body is undeniably full and smooth. There’s a significant prickly sensation on the tongue; it’s hard to tell if that’s the actual carbonation or just the intensity of the bitterness and the high alcohol content creating a rasping effect.
O: This was a miss for me. It’s too loud, too aggressive, and just "too much" in every direction. While I’m finishing the glass out of respect for the 20-year milestone, I won’t be reaching for another. It fits the "one-and-done" nature of a heavy Imperial IPA, but the flavour profile just didn't land.
Cheers!
