bought this in a specialty wine store called "90 plus" in beijing's swanky jianwai soho area. this was the only beer they carried. it was also available in green bottles on display next to the window - no thanks. i opted for the cans instead.
pale light golden color, with decent head but fades quickly. the score is higher than it otherwise would be because it actually left behind some nice, pretty lacing all the way down the glass.
malt and yeast aroma, mildly flowery, noble-hop-like notes. not too bad.
flavor isn't very bold, but at least not TOO watered down either. it has gentle, faint breadiness, slight acidity, and nice mildly bitter hop finish. none of that cloying sweetness found in many other asian macro lagers.
mouthfeel was decently crisp and carbonated, but somewhat watery.
hey, this actually isn't all too bad. the ingredients (all in chinese) indicate that there are no non-barley adjuncts. they are listed as (in translation): tibetan spring water, highland ("green") barley ("qing1 ke1"), malt, hops.
and yes, this is different from the lousy "lhasa beer", from apparently the same lhasa brewery which claims "beer from top of the world" (sic). the full label reads:
