Darker, medium bodied ale. Nut flavour with a hint of chocolate malt. Surprisingly light.

Beer arrived with 3cm of slightly tan head that slowly recedes, leaving some lacing on the glass and a nice ring on the surface of the beer. A nice ring of lace is added with each sip or gulp.
Smells like some toasted nuts, mild caramel, and hints of espresso.
Taste is nutty with accents of caramel, dark chocolate and toasted grains. Hops are mild pine on the finish with bitter chocolate.
Smooth and soft in the mouth, beautiful medium body that feels solid, but never heavy and a drying finish.
This is very nice to quaff. Easy going down. Forgot to ask the server the ABV, though judging from it's effects on my empty stomach, I doubt it's any higher than average.

Pours black with ruby accents. Mine had absolutely no head, although others at the bar had a healthy two-finger beige head. I had a hard time getting any aroma off of this, picked up a little bit of nutty and roasty malt as it warmed. Flavour was very nice, toasty and nutty malt flavours underscored by a balanced roast acidity. Fairly light body, went down crisp and smooth.

Dark, oaken coloured body, with an off-white head that laces well. Nutty aroma with some coffee grains and chocolate. Smelling good! Strong nutty flavour, complimented by bittersweet chocolate and coffee from the roasted malts. Light bitterness at the edges. Smooth medium-bodied mouthfeel and restrained carbonation. A very well made brown ale, and very drinkable. Well done Rogue's Roost!

Had a meal and a few drinks at Rogues Roost in Halifax, the city's best brewpub IMO.

Appearance: Arrives a dark cola brown. Nice white head leaving plenty of lace up the glass.

Aroma: Pretty complex from the normally standard brown category. Roasted malt with chocolate and coffee tons, a very pronounced nuttiness. Nicely hopped as well.

Taste: Nutty flavour dominates in a good way, underneath a bed of semi sweet chocolate, not overly sweet, which could have killed this brew. Espresso shows up in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Velvety smooth, but not too heavy. Medium bodied, pretty high drinkability. I could easily kick back a few of these.

Final Statement: I think this is now my favourite at the Roost. It's one of, if not the best brown ale I've had. I'm not sure if I could session these, but it made a great after dinner drink, and I could have easily drank a few. I recommend trying this one, the best brown on the east coast for sure.
