The strongest beer brewed by the brewery, Popper, situated in Bytča, Slovakia. The style is directly translated "exclusive dark lager". The BB date is 14/03/06
A: in a 300ml weissbier glass, it pours a dark mahogany hue, with a foamy and thick light-brownish beer head, with rather good head retention. Against light a consistently lively carbonation is detected, well supporting the lasting beer head showing no sign of dissipation
S: deeply malty and mildly aromatic hoppy upfront loads of sweetish, dark fruits spring to mind, but dried longan-fruit is by far the most pronounced, along with lightly caramelised brown-sugar and preserved black plum with very faint fruity sourness; at the back a very faint leather-note decorates the deeply malty nose. Overall, the nose is as sweet as pleasant, almost like a lighter, sweet porter.
T&M: a flow of sweet dark-malt, almost syrupy, flavour hitting the palate, with root-vegetable like bitter mouthfeel gradually gathering force on the palate; at the back a sweet yet refreshing flavour of dark malts sustains well, along with a slightly bitter aftertaste of dark chocolates, leading to a simultaneously slightly-bitter and mildly-sugary aftertaste. The mouthfeel is overall very satisfying as well as dryish, not too sweetish-rich nor too thin, just about right with a nice bitter kick at the end.
D: quite sweet on the palate, this beer shows a healthy structure and some depth with an evolving flavour. Not the most distinctive Czech-style dark lager Ive tried, but it surely stands out as an excellent Slovak product!!
