This is the nearest brewpub to my home, so you can say I'm a regular here.

There are five branches of this brewpub in my city, Monterrey, fairly distributed in all the metro area.

Accordingy to their name, Sierra Madre, which is a mountain chain, their beers are named after some local mountains, ranges or hiking places: La Silla Pale Ale, Cañón del Huajuco Bock, Cañón del Cobre Scottish Ale, El Fraile Porter, Matacanes Brown Ale, Chipinque Red Ale, etc.

Granted, not all their beers are exceptional, but these are the only brewpubs in town and I'm pretty sure that you might find a brew that'll suit your taste.

Although they brew some 15 styles, they only have on tap 5 to 6 at the time, with two season specialities: an Oktobertfestbier, naturally in October, and a Strong Ale in December called Navidad (Christmas).

Most of the waiters have some beer training and know a bit on their brews and alcohol content. But not very much. Actually, they tend to recomend you the lightest in flavor because that is what the majority of patrons favor most.

A useful tip if you happen to go to one of these venues: Tell your waiter/waitress that you want your beer in a non frozen glass.

The beer availability reflexes current Mexican taste: Their top selling beers are on the lighter, milder side of styles and renditions. But you can always find at least two good ones.

Two of the branches, located near the financial sector of the city, can have some uppity-yuppie kind of patrons and atmosphere, the rest of them receive middle-rank white collar employees.

This one in the municipality of Guadalupe is by a residential area and quite near to an industrial sector, so on Sundays you can find flost of families and on work days middle-rank white collar employees of these factories.

Of course, with a good presence of families. I take my wife and daughters at least once a month.

Decoration is a mix of American chain restaurant, with booths, tables with armchairs and a bar area with tall stools and little disco-like tables.

Food is, again, a mix of American and International cuisine: Meats, seafood and salads. Burgers are very good; pizzas are quite decent also.

Prices are quite reasonable, especially if you compare them with American restaurants and brewpubs.

A pint costs some 3 USD, so go figure.

¡Salud!
