A: Thick looking, mahogany colour, medium tanned head gave way to quite a bit of lacing.

S: Woody smoke, some malt.

T: Malty, the smoke was present without taking over.

M: Not overly carbonated, smooth, medium body.

O: A nice subtle smoked beer where the smoke let you know it was there without taking over.

Pour into 50 ml. Weißbier glass. Amber colour with long lasting, two finger head. It smells like barbeque and some earthy flavours. Taste like smoked beer. It will be suitatle near a barbeque. Finally I totally like it.

Ruby, ember, red-brown color with a huge white head. Tastes of pine, smoke, salt and hints of malt. The first thing I managed to recognize is the unusual low carbonation, making this kind of boring, because of the lack of a medium-body to compensate this. Smoke gets mingeled up with salt and malt, with no real aftertaste. Malt is much stronger in this than the smoke is. Minor hints of spices add up with the malty smokiness. Not very impressive overall, taste does not convince by itself, by being too well-behaved, with nearly no aftertaste at all, which reminds me of a common commercial beer.

4.9% ABV. Pours copper beer with fluffy 1-finger golden head. Headcrushing smell of smoked malts, good flavour of smoked malts. Medium-bodied with low carbonation. Plain and meagerly carbonized and in the same time catchy.

Relabelled to reflect some awards this beer has one, this rauchbier gave Schlenkerla Marzen a strong run for its money. Milder and smoother, but with still more than enough "rauch". A lot of praise early for this offering from Rittmayer

About a finger thick short-lived beige head of loosely agglomerated bubbles atop of clear deep-amber to coppery body. Poor head retention completely ruins the appearance of what could be a nice looking pour.

Smoke aroma with woody and bacon-like character dominates over sweet malt underneath.

Flavor is malty sweet with meaty smoke character, mild spicy noble hops and evident hop-bitterness that together with smokiness lends somewhat rude medium-dry finish.

Medium body is crispy with moderate carbonation.

The beer lacks any undesired harsh, burnt, rubbery or phenolic characteristics nor are percievable any esters or diacetyl, as it should be. I was unable to pick any pronounced caramel flavors inappropriate to the base-style, i.e. Marzen. Anyway, I prefer Rauchbiers with clean campfire rather then smoked-meat character hence the rather low overall impression.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. I love rauchbiers so I expect that I will like this one.

The beer pours an amber color with a white head. The aroma is just as expected. I get a ton of meaty smoke with some ashy notes as well.

The flavor is caramel malt, along with some smoke and ash. There is a little more caramel malt in this beer than in other rauchbiers, but the smoke is present and is delicious.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. This beer didn't disappoint.

The beer I'm drinking is simply called Hallerndorfer Rauchbier (without Raiterla in the name) and has an ABV of 4.9%. The label boasts a European Beer Star (beer tasting gold award 2007). I don't know if it's the same beer as the Raiterla, but I'll review it here since chances are considerable that it is.

An amber-colored appearance that is very clear and has a crispy off-white head; little lace.

The smoke aroma is pretty strong and merges rather well with the sweet malt and a vanilla-like trace. Hop presence is minimal but effective, a little flowery. This is quite an impressive nose that has plenty of depth and a very pleasing sweetness to it.

The taste surprises me with its refreshing and easily drinkable quality. Smokiness is in no way subdued and is constantly in the foreground. The finish is a little bitter and somewhat coarse, and has a good accent on the sweetness with a very mild hoppy touch to it. Overall pretty sweet (nice and round and faintly fruity) with a welcome salty touch to it.

Body is medium, with a smooth and strong mouthfeel and gentle carbonation.

Qua smoke intensity this one is closer to Schlenkerla than Spezial. A beer star well earned!

Pours a nice amber color that holds a few streams of large bubbles. Short off-white head fades quickly. Aroma of grainy malt, leather, and smoked meat. Malty flavors of dark sugar and grains mix with undertones of smoked malt. Finishes with a mild bite. Moderately light body with a mouthfeel that's not quite watery. The base style is probably a bock or zwickl. A nice smoked beer. Nothing interesting, but no complaints either.
