Pale, lusterless golden with a flat head and distant malt aroma, Yamhill’s “IPA” is given no proper name. But what’s disturbing to me is that there’s no hop aroma – none – and the hop flavor doesn’t stray far from the bittering range. The backdrop bittering is sizzling sharp, but a strong showing of apple cider – a textbook case of acetaldehyde – defines and corrupts the flavor. If not for the sharp bittering and slight lemony hop presence, you’d almost think this was an actual hard cider.

This was never a good beer that fell apart over time, but a weak effort that never came close to resembling a genuine IPA.
