22oz : tulip
Black body, with a foamy beige head.
Roasty, cocoa malts, light cherry sweetness.
More of the same in the taste. Roasty, cocoa, malts and a subtle cherry sweetness.
Medium body, thins out towards the finish with fizzy carbonation, which is why I didn't rate it higher.
I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I didn't know if this brewery could execute a biggerr beer such as this and while it isn't anything revolutionary, it is a solid, tasty stout.

Appearance- Pours up a good amount of head that looks to have really good retention. The head is a medium beige while the body is a dark chocolate brown which shows hints of garnet and crimson when held up to the light. Considerable lacing from the start.
Nose- Looks good and so far, it smells good. Dominant roasted notes. Lots of roasted malt but no real coffee. Chocolate is significant. Roasted malts tend toward bubblegum from the glass. Very rich with a good amount of presence but not a lot of complexity. Not a negative though. Swirling reveals nothing.
Taste- Shows hints of cherry on the tip of my tongue (perhaps a little artificial tasting) but moves quickly into the roasted notes which, on the palate, do show some coffee and a fair amount of chocolate. Lacks presence and the cherry aspect moves to the background very quickly and becomes basically non-existent. Pretty much represents the nose in the lack of complexity. Pretty simplistic but still good. Cherries seem to be an afterthought but this is an above average stout nonetheless. No indication of the 7.8%. No flaws and a pretty easygoing beer. Not good, but definitely above average.
Mouthfeel- A little bit more than medium bodied with some grittiness. Carbonation is a bit too much for a stout. Way too much zing.
Drinkability- Fairly accessible but seems bland after it warms up. 5 bucks a bomber is a little much to spend on an above average bomber. Not a repurchase.
Overall- In no way offensive but also not enticing. Above average beer from an average brewery- that means it's good, right? Give it a try but have the same low expectations that I did.
