A really solid hefe with a strong banana component too it, could be a little more body and a little more complex but it is a nice fruit forward hefe

Kannah Creek Brewery Highside Hefeweizen: I have been blessed with the opportunity to have experienced fresh hefeweizen in Munich, and it is amazing stuff. Not many US brewers come close, so I was surprised by how good a hefeweizen can be had at the Kannah Creek Brewery in Grand Junction, Colorado. It comes on tap with a deep color, appropriate head and nice aroma of sweets, banana and spice. The flavor is pure hefeweizen, wonderful sweetness that fades into subtle fruit and spice. It comes on bold, but finishes softly. Absolutely worth a try if you are a hefe fan.

A bottle left over after GABF judging and given to me as a reward for my volunteer efforts. A German-style Hefe...I roused what little yeast was in the bottle.
Pours a three finger fluffy off-white head over a murky golden liquid with a few streamers rising. Smells wheat, hay, oranges, and spicy zip. Diacetyl. Some clovey phenols, minimal banana, some vanilla, and a dash of DMS.
Tastes mild. Wheat, sweet from esters, but drying in the mouth. Esters are oranges and pear. Yeast is minimal and becomes dominated by a spicy zip that arises fairly early and persists as an astringency into a late aftertaste. Waxy and woody dry with DMS rising retronasal. Thin in the mouth with some slick (perhpas from diacetyl). A drying beer dominated by the spicy zip.

A - golden yellow, with slight haze and a foamy white head.
S - Slight clove and banana (Balanced more toward banana), accompanied by a slight wheat aroma.
T - Crisp wheaty flavors accompanied by some spicy clove and banana. There also seemed to be a slight amount of diacetyl present that distracted from the other flavors.
M - Creamy texture with a appropriate carbonation. Also a slight slickness on the tongue.
The butter flavors in this beer seemed to detract from the other flavors in this beer.

From a growler picked up two days ago at the brewpub.
A (4.0): Light gold with a long-lasting, foamy head.
S (3.5): Clove and phenolic aromas dominate and the fruit is relatively muted. There's a hint of lemon.
T (4.0): A fine balance of banana and cloves, and, just as in the bouquet, there is a distinct bit of citrus and a light breadiness.
M (4.5): Starts sweet and finishes dry--overall it is an exceptionally creamy, well-balanced beer with a host of complex flavors that come together to make a lengthy-yet-refreshing beverage.
D (5): Excellent--just as it should be for such a summery beer.
Overall, a great hefe like this makes me wonder why anyone would ever design or drink a (less flavorful) American pale wheat ale. The fruity and spicy flavors balance each other perfectly to make a top-notch summer--or year-round--brew. Kudos to Jim and the crew at Kannah Creek. This is one of the two or three best true hefeweizen's in Colorado!

It's got a good, strong aroma like the wheat beers from the motherland of Germany. Moderately cloudly. And wow, it's tasty! It really displays with courage those banana-like hints that are present in a lot of hefeweizens. I feel like my jaw gets heavy when this is in my mouth, I just want to bask in the creamy, rich goodness forever. It has very respectable body on it. Do this one WITHOUT the lemon, please!
