Broken Oar IPABroken Oar IPA
Notes: Not your standard hop bomb, Broken Oar is a refined IPA. English malt with a Cascade and Centennial dry hop offer an approachable IPA that's crisp and full of pine & citrus aroma.

I tried this at the brewery. It poured a clear copper with white head that left a spotty lace. The scent had subtle citrus peel notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bitter hop presence some citrus flare. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a decent beer.

Light golden with dense head. Piney nose reminiscent of backwoods off bug repellent but not in a bad way. High citrus notes, grapefruit, orange peel. Lighter body and low carbonation.

29 Ju1 15
On-Tap 16 oz. (Kannah Creek)

Pours a nice clean/clear golden orange color, nice carbonation, with a nice one-finger creamy white head, leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, with some very nice citrus notes. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, nice citrusy. Medium body with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall a pretty tasty brew.

This beer has no character - very mild like most English IPAs. No bitterness, no obvious problems - just Ok. I would drink it if there was nothing else. Definitely would want to chill this one.

12oz from whole foods, but also saw it at brewers haven and a couple other places... Pours sorta clear light amber.. short lived white head shows good lacing. Fruity yeast and dry toast, grassy/floral hoppiness is the big player with a lesser citrus.. Flavor mirrors the aroma perfectly.. Decent bitterness up front and on the finish but is very flimsy in the middle.

Not sure what to say about this one.. There is a minerally dry finish that carries the bitterness for a while...

Personally, I don't care for it but I guess if the brewers were shooting for English IPA, then they did an okay job.

Draft at the Bookcliff Bar, Grand Junction.
Bright saturated orange, spotty lace, some foam initially.
Light grapefruit rind and bready caramel malt aroma.
Resiny bitter taste, bitter grapefruit peel, bready caramel malt.
Light bodied and a little sticky. Not bad, better than the 2015 bottle. A pretty textbook IPA.

From a 355 ml bottle ("Mfg." on November 20, 2014) into a tulip.

A-The beer is orange-hued golden in color and nearly clear. There are a few bubbles of carbonation working to support the one and one-half finger tall head of nearly white foam. Retention isn't great, but the beer leaves a bit of lacing.

S-The aroma is pretty simple with zesty orange and floral notes dominating. Malts are lighter and suggest toast and bread. Bitterness is moderate.

T-The taste tracks the smell pretty closely. Lots of floral notes, a bit of orange zest, and some bready, toasty, biscuit-like malts. A touch rough around the edges, but not unpalatable.

M-The beer is medium in weight with a slightly higher volume of carbonation.

O-This is not a bad beer, but with so many good to great IPAs in the market, this one doesn't quite measure up. The flavors are pretty simple and maybe a touch harsh, but if you like bitter hops and want a tick from an off-the-beaten-path brewer, this might be your jam.

Nothing special about this beer. But I very drinkable English style ipa . Pour is dull with a small head. Deep gold brown look and the English malts are right up front on the nose. Taste is crisp and clean with good feel in the mouth. Overall not bad but not something to go look for.. would like to try on tap for comparison.

this is a terrible ipa by colorado standards. malty and thick and sweet and full of stale grain and other off flavors, it does absolutely nothing for me, and a single bottle is more than i can tolerate. sad, because this is a cool place, and their other beers have something different to offer, but this is brutal to me. coppery looking brew, with a nose more like an english pale than an american ipa. the flavor is nothing but bitterness from the hops and way more grain heft than the beer needs or wants. metallic notes and lumpy post mash slop flavors to this, cerealy, balanced in a bad way. fuller bodied too, and probably overcarbonated, it offers very little. filling and not very tasty, this is the worst kannah creek beer i have had, and ive liked most of their stuff, but an ipa is the style by which breweries are judged these days, and this is unacceptable.

Appearance: Pale to Deep Gold. Head was not very existent and faded fast.

Smell: Lots of northwest hops but no malt on the nose

Taste: Bitter hops dominate, not this brewers strong point. Citrus and flowers.

Mouthfeel: The highlight of the beer. The hops fade and a somewhat creamy texture developes, surprising give how the beer started.

Drinkability: Nothing to write home about but not going to have another.

A - Clear golden color with a very slight head.
S - Slight hop aroma, some malty aromas and a hint of butter.
T - Buttery diacetyl evident, with a slight hop aroma, and substantial bitterness, followed by some alcohol notes.
M - Medium full bodied, with good carbonation.

The buttery flavor and lack of finishing hops in this beer are very disappointing.
