Sampled at Toronado 2009 Barleywine Festival.
Pours a perfect copper color with a bit of haze and long lasting tan head. The aroma starts with sugary malts and becoming sort of cherry like to go along with light amounts of prune and raisin. Kind of an average aroma for the style. The taste consists of the same notes as the nose with sweet maltiness, some cherry, fig, prune and raisin. It then picks up a bit of chemical alcohol notes midway. After more sips that seemingly off note sort of vanished. The taste has grown on me as I near the end of the beer. Toward the finish a bit of malt astringency adds a tad bit more balance to the beer. Overall it seems a bit on the rough side. Maybe some age will do it wonders.
