This beer is in my top 3 all time favs. It was served (along w/ all the other Sailer brews) at our local octoberfest in cocoa fl. for a few years.the color is a clear mahogany color w/ a frothy reddish head(if you wait to use a glass) a rich malty aroma w/ little hop aroma, the taste is incredible, the marriage of different malts combined w/ a buttery diactyl is balanced w/ just enough bitterness,a sweet caramel taste too,nice med mouthfeel, i could drink this beer everyday, but not all day....

Great packaging with a flip top bottle of jug like design. It pours to a deep hazel brown hue with an inch¼ head. The nose of which comes out to a sweet caramely molasses with hints of toffee and rasin with a slight bitterness from fruity hops.

With sticky sweet malts followed by pleasent toasted grains, this is bar none the most enjoyable aromatic Märzen/Altbier I have encountered. All the toasted grains and fruitiness come together with light carbonation to form a sweet warm malty first sip with just enough bite, begging you to follow suit till the end.

The middle lends it's nice malted flavors to the back of your tongue. The last few sips finish out with a nice clean toasted flavor, which may have you partaking in another.

Mouthfeel was mediam to full bodied.

This was a fully enjoyably Märzen/Altbier which I would gladly purchase again and again.

Sadly this beer is hard if not impossiable to find. I suggest you enjoy these while they are still avaliable. !!Cheers!!

I'm a big fan of the bottle, a little different which makes it stand out. Popped the lid, literally, and poured the beer into a pint glass. Beer is a deep crimson-ruby color with a thin tan colored head. Smell is quite sweet with amber malt, caramel, as well as some slightly toasted notes coming through. The taste is also sweet (amber and caramel malt) with some hop bitterness, but also some bitterness from the slightly burnt malt taste. The mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with a thin carbonation and a dry finish. This is a drinkable beer, very sessionable. Worth picking up for sure.

Very cool looking flip top with a milk jug like handle on the back. No dates. Purchased at Beer Depot in Ann Arbor and poured into a pint glass.

Very dark amber with a smallish head of light tan. Good retention and sheeted lace.

Smells toasty with caramel and what reminds me of noble hops...but I could be wrong. Slight graininess with some honey and pears.

Very roasty for the style. Almost stout like. Roasted malts and a suggestion of coffee with a slight nutty flavor. Hops come in for balance and have just enough bitterness to get the job done. The roasted notes linger for a bit in the finish and aftertaste. Not like any Marzen I've had before but I really like it.

The mouth is also fuller than what I'm used to for the style, but again, it fits. Overall a very drinkable beer that I will revisit.

Attractive swingtop bottle, as pictured, purchased at the Keg Liquors in Clarksville, Indiana. Took several minutes on Google to find out what I had here. This festbier pours a clear, dark, coca cola brown body with a moderate beige head that eventually deposits a generous amount of lacing.

Aroma is caramel and spicy and earthy hops. A hint of fruity pears is picked up in the background.

Mouthfeel is light medium with good carbonation and a spicy hops bite.

Well balanced blend of Munich maltiness and noble hops. Spritzy carbonation enlivens the caramel malt flavor as it plays off the spicy hops bitterness. A note of pear or green apple comes out midway through. Finishes clean and dry.

A very nicely crafted Oktoberfest bier that is distinctly German. Very sessionable.

Pour from the rather cool looking flip top bottle gives me a mildly hazy deep brown ale with a small head and a low end carbonation level.

This is one odoriferous ale that you can smell at a distance and quite a good smell it is. Lots of toasted grains and a strong sweet molasses scent reminds me a lot of molasses cookies my mother used to make. There are some slight sour smells here that adds a fruity edge of prunes and figs. Scent is something like an alt in its sweetness.

Taste is sweet and figgy at the start with some very tasty roasted grain flavors. Caramel, figs, raisins, molasses, and chocolate all meld in to one downright tasty beer. Mild bitterness in the after taste cleans up the sweetness for the next taste again and again.

Mouthfeel is good.

This here is about as tasty a Märzen as I have ever tasted. Mild and tasty this is an excellent beer to convert others to better beer with. After you finish the bottle I guarantee that you will want another.

Swing top opened wit a reassuring woosh. Pours a ruddy brown, but with some haze. Nice 2 fingers+ light tan head. Good head retention & light lacing

Smell: Fruitiness, plums & raisins??

Taste: Strange tealike taste with fruitness up front. Some grainy& bitter notes, Finishes

MF: Under carbonated & sort if neutral

Not too drinkable, I'm quessing this was past its prime, so don't pay $4.50 for a pint of this or you may feel jipped. I think I might've had this in germany, but if I did; it left no impression..

Cool bottle with the flip top opens with a *shtop!*

Pours a proper mahogany hazy, semi filtered, with a dense craterd 1/4" sandy colored cap that settles to a thin collar.

Light scents of leafy bark malt, and some spicy yet subtle red apple.

First swigs: Dark fruit and slight cinamon. Marzen style is pronounced with a spicy rye and slight cardomon note. Solid focused flavor.

Medium bodied. Clean aftertaste with a touch of copper penny?

Last swigs: Seems like a spot on Marzen to me! $6 at Hyde Park.

Beer is good. Happy out of season beering.

Paid three bucks for this mini growler pint at New World in NYC.

This is indeed a fine Marzen...or a sweet vienna lager. Either way it was quite tasty. Pours a clear dark copper-brown with an abundant off-white head that lingered and left some pleasing sticky lace. Aroma is sweet malt with a faint hint of floral hops. Taste is bready and sweet. Caramel and candy sugar coming to mind immediately. Finish is short with a moment of dryness before clearing off to make room for the next sip. Mouthfeel is slick and full bodied with abundant carbonation. A very drinkable brew at a nice price. Wishing he had more ... he sighs.

I know where I will be going Monday at lunch.

Paid 4.49 USD for a nice-looking growler with flip top and handle which make the bottle a conversation piece (I certainly kept it). Opens with a “pop” and pours a dark caramel brown with a nice, thick tan head with various-sized bubbles. Unfortunately, the head fades much too quickly. Nose is delicious, with plenty of malt, sorghum, some chocolate, and perhaps some honey as well. The flavor is definitely good, but somewhat disappointing based upon the promise of the nose. It’s definitely a malty/sorghum flavor, with perhaps a hint of alchol at the end. I didn’t pick up any of the chocolate flavor. Unfortunately, this beer tasted flat to me (perhaps a bad sample?). Mouth otherwise seems mealy and substantial in a good way. The first goes down easy, but unless you’re a huge malt fan, drinking several might not be as enjoyable, and would certainly put a dent in one’s pocketbook.

Overall: No doubt an intriguing beer and worth a try. The Oktoberfest classification is misleading; this is a much heavier brew.

Now this is a most excellent brew!! Poured from a wee growler like bottle a very cloudy chocolatey brown / copper colour. Very little head, but what it did have was off white and had tightly knit bubbles. Nice lacing. The smell is just delicious. Large amounts of chocolate and a toasty malt smell. The taste was easily as good as the smell, plus! Very malty and huge chocolate taste. Seemed to me to be nearly void of hops, except on the finish. Dry, roasted nutty middle. Huge huge huge malt. A truly magnificient brew. Mouthfeel had a bit more carbonation than I like, but was certainly not unpleasant. Seemed a bit thinner in consistency than most other Oktoberfest style brews I have had. Drinkability? Is this one available in kegs? I could drink mug after mug of this stuff!! Absolutely fantastic!!

Appearance: Out of the mini growler pours a cloudy ice tea brown color with a modest head that dissipates to a ringlet and an island; some lacing

Smell: A rich, malty bouquet, with plenty of chocolate and caramel elements

Taste: Rich and malty, with a flavor as appealing as the nose, with plenty of milk chocolate and caramel; dries out somewhat on the finish as the hops kick in, but this beer is all about malt

Mouthfeel: Medium to slightly thick-bodied with relatively low levels of carbonation

Drinkability: Although much more of a dunkel than an Oktoberfest, this is a nice, drinkable beer

This is a very interesting beer. It pours nice brown, barely transparent, with a light tan head. That fizzles down to a ring around the glass.

The aroma is good but it is unusual. Quite the mind bender. It smells kind of like heavily concentrated tea mixed with some dark chocolate. I swear to god I can almost smell tomatoe juice. I've never smelled or tasted a beer that was comparable to this aromas and flavors. They are very hard to put your finger on.

The flavor is malty but seems to have some bitterness to it rather than sweet. It's like what dark chocolate would be to sweet chocolate. It doesn't seem like this is a very hoppy beer but there seems to be some bitterness coming from somewhere. This is almost comparable to a bock I would say but not quite.

The mouthfeel is good, it is very chewy. Medium body and medium carbonation. This is a good beer but it is hard to identify the aroma and flavor of this one. Very original.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy reddish chestnut color with a thick half inch of tan foam at first pour. This head fell pretty quickly

Aroma: Loads of toasty aromatics along with some Chocolate and a few Melanoidins. There is even a subtle plum flavor lurking in there somewhere also. This particular bottle may have some age on it, because I can pick out a subtle oxidation setting in.

Taste: The taste is really close to the aroma profile. The Munich malt rules the day with this beer. There is a hint of hops, but the beer is firmly balanced toward the malt the entire time. There is a bit of Oxidation in the flavor also. The finish is somewhat resiny.

Opinion: I think that this is an extremely tasty beer. I have drunk it on multiple occasions, and I believe that this particular bottle is suffering from a tad of oxidation.

On another note, this beer is pretty far from an Oktoberfest category. It is too dark and a bit too rich for this style. When you drink this beer, keep a Munich Dunkel in mind instead. It is almost bordering on a Bock, but is a bit thin for that style. Still an excellent beer!

Color is maple syrup brown. Unfortunately, the head is very fizzy, and died down very quickly, even with a semi-rough pour. Other than that, I really dig the color, which is just the right shade of dark to let me know that I'm drinking a beer with some class. The bottle looks really cool, too. Flip top style, with a handle, like a growler I guess, although I've never actually seen a growler in person since I live in FL, but it's fun to pretend.

Tastes scrum-diddily-umptious! Where do I start. OK, very strong smell. I have a terrible sense of smell, so the fact that I could smell this beer without even trying says a lot. Smells like malt, that grape juice smell, and it hits my nostrils on every sip. Taste is very sweet, very malty, also with that grape juice taste. There is also a hint of caramel, and some roastiness. Mouthfeel is excellent, not too syrupy like some malty beers that leave a thick residue in your mouth after you swallow each sip.

I could definitely drink this liter by liter were I in Germany, too the point that I might actually think I remember something from those German classes I took, and maybe try to chat up some of the local bavarian ladies.

Pours with a three-finger very light tan head, fades quickly but leaves some lace. Deep amber color. Light carbonation and light-medium bodied. Nose is sweet, raisiny. Starts slightly sweet, raisin/caramel flavor, finish is slightly watery, but a good Oktoberfest. $3.30 for a 16oz flip-top jug from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.
