Stopped by the brewpub yesterday (07JUN15) with the whole Family for a late lunch/early dinner.... Had a Bo's first but then noticed this on their board.... They call it a barleywine and describe it as a blend of Bo's and Hopzilla and aged a few months... Hmmmm.... Got a pint for $8.25....
Shaker pint was brimming with a deep, dark, clear chestnut/mahogany elixir. The head was creamy and tan, though short and wispy, with decent lacing. The aroma was up front with lots of pithy, rindy hops, though I couldn't detect much malt there. Body was medium, and it had a fairly smooth feel going over the tongue.
Flavor? Hops! Lots of rindy, pithy, piney citrus all over the palate! Quite the lupulin blast, indeed! There were some hints of malt and sweet, brown sugar notes, but they were well covered by the hopping. I enjoyed this one quite a bit, with the Hopzilla being the more dominant partner in this combo. Prosit!!
