Dark reddish-brown hue with coppery highlights, it was served with a skimpy off-white head that does not cover the beer fully. Poor retention and not surprisingly it did not lace as I drank it. The nose doesn’t say much; there is a mere whisper of chocolate malts. The potency is lacking. As for the palate, it is decent with dry chocolate malts, a kiss of chocolate candy sweetness, a hint of roasted coffee bean followed by a note of simplistic hops. It is a well-rounded beverage. The mouthfeel was medium-light, low carbonation, which helps produce a slick beer on the tongue. Mild aftertaste of malts, largely toasty chocolate, it is a constant reminder of the beer you’re drinking. This is a decent enough brown ale. I got one of the last pints of Sioux Falls beers in the city, as this brewpub is no more. I’m glad I got the opportunity. This is a solid beer that is simplistic but pleasurable. Session brew material… if it was still being produced.
