Very nice dark amber ale, nice whitey top on it. Very surprised by the hefe characteristics with it, subtle hints of 'naner and clove. Wife had a taste and wanted one of her own and shes just now crossing over to better brews.
Very smooth and pleasant drinkin brew. It went down nicely with a portabella sandwich and chips. Another solid brew by S1.

Sample at the brewpub: This brew is a reddish-orange color with a medium thin and creamy off-white head that has decent retention. Stringy lacing. The aroma is mostly yeast with some spice and citrus. Light, crisp body with tart fruit and spice flavors predominantly, followed by touches of hops and grainy malt. The finish is more on the sweet side and leaves a spiced aftertaste. Very drinkable summer fare.

One of two excellent beers on tap at Square One in Lafayette Park area just off I-44 on Jefferson then right on Park Street. Easy access and beers like this and their Single Malt Scotch Ale make this a favorite stop when passing through St. Louis.
Name Belgian Red (a dark amber alke with some Belgian yeast character) Pours into the pint glass a clear copper with some persistant lace.
A nice play of 4-VG clove and higher lovibond crystal malts backed with excellet supporting hops yields a highly drinkable session beer that would be a great choice for a growler. My compliments to the brewers!

First order of business: This is not your mothers sour Flanders Red Belgian Ale. From a taste standpoint, this beer falls into the Dunkelweizen/Witte category. So if youre hoping for one of those sour brews, keep looking. Belgian Pale Ale is not at all appropriate either. With that said
Second order of business: This is a very good beer. It pours a cloudy, pinkish red with the initial appearance of having been pulled through a firkin or dispensed from a nitro tap. It settles fairly quickly to a moderate head that leaves considerable lace. Aroma is of ester, cloves, and sweet malts. The taste, as previously indicated, is like a combination of Dunkelweizen and Witte. The typical yeast effects are present banana, clove, bubblegum, as well as lightly caramelized, sweet malt that is nicely balanced by just a hint of tartness (like a real Bavarian Hefe). Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, with just a bit of carbonation zing. Drinkabilty is good, and this would be a nice session beer, if thats your thing.

I had this on tap at Square One. It poured a copper to amber color very hazy. It was topped by a head that was white an almost chunky. Smells like a hefeweizen. Cloves banana, a litle caramel. Tastes like a hefeweizen too. Loads of clove, coriander, a little caramel. The finish is where it gets weird. Its really tangy tangy, almost tart like La Folie. Smooth nice mouth feel. I like this beer. I cant help but think it was a mistake, but it drinks very well.
