Pours golden with a medium white head. Nose is malty and hoppy. Aromas are citrus, malts and some herbal hops. Light body, fizzy carbonation. Quite short bitter finish.

Bottle: a standard brown 330mL bottle with a pretty average 70s looking label.
Appearance: this beer pours a fairly clear light yellow with some limited fine lacing. A two-finger fluffy white head drops to a half-centimetre solid cap. Looks decent.
Aroma: bread and biscuit malts, honey and lemon citrus. Smells of springtime - very refreshing.
Taste: plenty of flavour coming across from the nose - strong lemon and grapefruit citrus with the honey and malts. Very nicely combined flavours.
Aftertaste: hop bitterness as expected, but also some heavier malt flavours. Very nice.
Mouth feel: light- to-moderate in body with a fairly low carbonation, but with plenty of punch overall.
Overall: not the cheapest beer, with an equivalent case of 24 x 330mL being over $85 a case (2014). It is a lovely pilsner however - complex and well built. A lovely beer from Murray's.

Pilsner is the classic style that can go oh-so-wrong for many brewers, but Murray's? I have faith that Murray's can pull it off. Big question is the direction they go in - the German flatter carbonated and bread yeast heavy style or the Czech cut grass and spicy hop dominated style, personally I prefer Czech, but German is also good.
Poured from a 330ml bottle into a nonic pint.
A: Clear lemon drop bodied with a minimal white half centimetre head on top. Opened over the sink as the last beer reviewed was the excitable Murray's Punch & Judy, this by comparison was a leisurely stroll in the park, I like leisurely strolls in parks.
S: An odd fusion of honey, butterscotch and white wine. Hints of citric lemon hops faintly waft into the background... intriguing aroma.
T: Flavour profile is the above minus white wine. The mid palate has a broad buttery diacetyl taste and there is notes of spicy/citric hops leaving a light bitter finish. Again an interesting take on the style, more of an ale than a lager, I guess that's what Murray's does best.
M: Mid to light body with a light carbonation. Also has an unexpected bit of cloying viscosity as well (i.e. it sticks around on its way down).
D: Overall not bad, not bad at all. Not a Pilsner either, at least not like any other Pilsner I've ever had before, more like a fusion of heavy-handed buttery diacetyl ale with a spicy hop citric finish. If you like your beers buttery, or you watched a Harry Potter film the other night and wanted to imagine what butterbeer might be like then this is your ale, or lager, or something.
Food match: Harry Potter fans grilled over a slow flame, or if cannibalism isn't your thing (I should hope not) then a Pad Thai or a Mee Goreng might be the meal ticket.

pint at The Local Tap House St Kilda 18/3/14 from notes
A clear yellow liquid with just a few slow tiny bubbles but the finger of eggshell foam just sits there leaving partial rings as it slowly falls
S some noble notes but a little faint, some citrus but again its faint, bread crust and pil yeast with a little dried grass
T bread, biscuit, faint caramel, slightly more citrus, quite malty, a little spicy
M light bodied, quite crisp, soft from the bubbles, yeasty finish, feels like a pil
O decent brew but perhaps the Kiwis have spoiled me with great lagers, the yeast and malt profiles there but could use some hops
Maybe this ones more true to style then I'm giving it credit for, either that or a couple weeks in NZ has upped my hop expectations from the style

ice cold fridge, hot day, pilsener, nice label, good brewery - it's on!!
a - golden, mostly clear, with a 2cm white head than lingers into a 1cm lacing
s - fruity aroma (grape, lemon), some biscuit malts coming through.
t - lager like malt sweetness initially, with a sharp hop bitterness that seems to grow long afterwards. there is a hint of lemon and spice in there as well
m - dry finish, light to medium body. lively carbonation but not overtly.
Great beer for a warm day, the malts and more present in smell and taste than in other pilseners, but it makes rudeboy a great summers day beer.

Poured perhaps a tad warm, with a modest off-white head that soon settled and some lace. Color is a clear grain amber with some bubble trails. Aroma has a hint of butterscotch, then it's malt, fresh beer. Flavor loses the butterscotch, brings out malt, bitter, carbonic tang, all the classic pils qualities in the just right amounts. Also some spice. Body/carbonation are good. Finish is like flavor, taper slow and balanced and is very drinkable. Wish I had more.
