Pours a clear golden colour, medium-to-generous head, white in colour with small dense bubbles. Leaves some decent lace behind. Slow bead. Not sure about it as a wheat, but it looks good as beer.
Nice NZ hop character up front on the nose - citrus, passionfruit and some good phenols. Slight rubbery note, just going along with the flow. Not really balanced, but a good mix and provides a nice dry, crisp fragrance.
Taste is quite rich, with lots of metallic earthy notes. Big malt with a brassy edge and brown sugar on there with some slight vegetative-sour notes and odd sherbet tang on the back. Citric hops that are not very complex, just distinct and flavoursome. Definitely needs more wheat characters. As it is, it's largely just a hop bomb; some more spice or phenol would be welcome. Pleasant, but less than expected.
Lotza tingle with a slightly thin body to struggle against it. Could use more body, although it's okay for the style
Yeah a good quencher with nice flavour. I wonder if I'm unnecessarily kind to the first beer I have after walking up Albion street. But this is definitely drinkable.

On tap at The Local Taphouse East St Kilda.
A - A fairly clear dark golden beer with a 2cm white head that falls fairly fast.
S - Some herbal, woody/piney & light citrus characters. Light peppery phenols.
T - Also quite herbal in the taste, almost too much so. The fruity characters are there as well as a sweetish pale malt character.
M - Lighter side of medium bodied, lowish to medium carbonation, just a touch of bitterness.
D - I don't know if we are just used to expecting amazing beers from Murrays (possibly) but this is a bit of a let down. Too herbal, more citrus would be my vote. Worth trying though.

On tap at the Local Taphouse, Darlinghurst. Although it's brewed with German ingredients, I've classified it as American, because it reminded me most of Lagunitas A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' for a heavily hopped wheat ale. If there were a German "Hopfenweisse" style, I'd put it there...
Pours a very clear golden yellow colour. No haze at all in the body, which is surprising and a bit of a disappointment for a wheat beer of any description. Minimal carbonation, but despite this, forms a thin white foam head with intricate bubbling.
Not a lot on the nose. There's some weizeny spice and a touch of pepper hops, maybe verging a little towards citrus. It's a little weak all up. Certainly, I expected more from a hopfenweisse.
Taste is a little bit weak too - there's a thin weizen character on the front, before an onrush of slightly peppery, slightly grassy hop flavour. Phenols on the back. It's missing some sweetness, and certainly missing some body. All up, it doesn't really have a huge amount going for it.
Wow. I'm surprised at how disappointed I am with that. It's very pale when put up against some good hopfenweisses, such as Schneider's Tap 5. As much as Murray's say they don't brew to style, that shouldn't mean they redact flavour from existing styles.
It's drinkable, but it's a long way from being exciting. A rare miss by Murray's.
