The Shieldmaid Lagertha was an outstanding female warrior, mentioned in Saxo's Danish Chronicle. She was for a time married to the famous Regnar Lodbrog.
Found brewery waste from the Viking Age shows that beer was brewed with barley malt and sometimes also with oats. The beer was flavored with port and hops.

Copenhagen 18/2 2019. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Rødovre Centrum. Another feature in Skands series of beers from medieval times in collaboration with Denmark's National Museum. . This time they have tried to make a beer as the Vikings preferred it. Ornamental paraphernalia on the label.
Pours very dark brown with a red hue and medium-sized light beige head. Settles as thin layer of foam just managing to cover the surface of the beer and hanging on to the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is sweetish and herbal. Not very intense. Seaweed, licorice, metal accompanied by a lightly sugary odor.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily and a little sticky texture.
Flavor is medium sweet followed by a medium strong, herbal bitterness. Aftertaste is medium bitter. Lingers for a short while.
A little thin and pretty light stout with a herbal vibe.
