Bottle brought by Steve, 650ml split into a tulip. Side by side with the 'unoaked' version.
Appearance is similar to the regular Sugar Shack ale, albeit with a significantly less persistent head (actually close to none). Dark burgundy/mahogany with some chestnut highlights. Nose holds some oak, vanilla, alcohol, less maple than the unoaked version and again, this peculiar red delicious apple. Taste starts with some sweet maple (thank God this is nowhere near as cloying as the original) and oak, although the combination in this particular brew isn't that spectacular. A thinner mouthfeel than I'd like, moderate at best. Although this is a big improvement upon the regular verison, and the oak provides a bit of balance to offset the cloying feel, I don't feel as if I'd be motivated to revisit this one any more than the original.

Much better than the regular sugar shack as adds chocolate, woodiness, but also sourness in finish. Coco-cola above all, understated the carbonation and the maple syrup which is a good think. Dark brown head, very lacey and fresh.
