I tried this at the brewery. It poured a clear amber with white head that is leaving a nice lace. The scent had sweet malt presence. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with caramel malt base. The mouthfeel is fuller in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

Served on tap at the Captain Lawrence Brewery in Elmsford, NY.
A: Pours a dark copper color with very rudy highlights and a tan head. Solid retention and lacing.
S: Aromas of molasses, caramel, ?guava, and herbs are strong with a substantial whiskey note.
T: Semisweet to sweet and tart. Flavors more molasses than caramel and sarsaparilla. Whiskey notable without being overpowering. Light bitterness.
M: Medium bodied with light to medium carbonation.
O: Interesting. Clearly an attempt at flavor-forward; not sure it quite works, but I did enjoy it.

Look: Beautiful caramel color with red tint.
Smell: Smells sweet, not to much depth or variance here.
Taste/Feel: Caramel. Not a sickly sweet caramel, but a smooth, pure caramel. Some barrel, but the Jameson barrel aging really contributes and plays a minor supporting role rather than being "in your face" like a lot of other barrel aged beers. No alcohol burn. Would have guess this was even less than 7.0% since it drinks so easily and so smoothly. Perfect body for the style.
Overall: Everything I want in a barrel aged imperial red. The maltiness really shines (not a lot of typical "hoppiness" here, but everything works in harmony). The barrel complements rather than overpowers. Fantastic balance. Another winner from Captain Lawrence Brewing Co.
