Had at Pod 39 Rooftop bar in NYC (above Salvation Taco) on Sunday night, 5/29. Poured into a pint glass this beer is on the darker side of amber, near copper, with a small white head that fades and leaves minimal lacing.
Smell caught me by surprise, there's an odd aroma to it, very toasty and crisp, near burnt. It's almost like this might have roasted coffee in it. There's an underlying caramel sweetness. Taste wise I am not digging this. Initial fruity sweetness gets taken away by a bitter and roasted note, pretty dry at the end. I feel like there is a small amount of coffee added here, just enough to get the roastiness.
Overall this was very meh and I wasn't a fan. Definitely not true to the Kolsch style and even separating this review from the style it's not a great beer.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
