what a cool beer this is, about as much black raspberry as you can possibly pack into a beer, its as much juicy or berry wine as it is beer, a very enjoyable beer, cool to find it on tap out here too! it pours a dense deep ruby to purple color, almost looks like wine in the glass, the color is the same and its just a bit thinner, without a ton of head, but this color is dead sexy. aroma is tart for sure, clean bacterial pucker and oak, but less funk than i have known in other captain lawrence wild beers for sure, acidic but bright and clean. the fruit totally drives this one in nose and flavor, its tart and sweet at the same time, concentrated and intense, but also really fresh and natural, they obviously used a ton of fruit here. its got that sort of gritty almost seedy texture, light in grain flavor and body, and really is just flavored by the bacteria and the fruit for the most part. it could use a little more grain to make it beerier, but i like it as it is too, its such a cool expression of the raspberry, and the oak is there grounding it just enough. good juiciness to the ripe berries, a lemon note to the lacto, lots of sourness here, subtle vanilla, grapevine, and nuttiness, dry for how fruity it is in the finish. well i do want more carbonation here, the stillness lets it warm up in a cool way, slows me down too, drinks like a light red wine or something, notes of currant and cherry here too. just a delicious beer. i am stoked to have found some beer from these guys around town this fall!
