DATE: June 19, 2016... At my second Father's Day at the Draught House--forty beers on tap and a free dinner! Can't beat that... drinking from a Miller Lite pint... starts with a frothy, crater-like off-white head that settles to a thin film... clear, golden body--but does NOT look filtered... faint pepper and banana, with some malty biscuit... strong rye suggestions, with aromatic flowery aromas providing some .. the flavor is pepper and biscuit, with lemony hops and Saaz-like pilsener, both of which are softened by the wheat... medium-bodied, with a refreshing, lighthearted passage to the throat, but no staying power here... pairing well with the bourbon pepper steak I ordered, though a bit light for the task... as a kickstarter for my Father's Day, a winner... a beer that could be sessioned, but not as bright as promised...

On-tap 5/15/2016 at Flynn’s in Mansfield, MA, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a medium white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains citrus, wheat, light caramelized malts and a good amount of hops.

T: The taste starts out with a strong citrusy lemon flavor followed by some breadiness from wheat and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty but somehow reminds me of Lemon Pledge, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while.

Pours very cloudy, almost white. Moderate head that leaves large spots on the glass.

I get bleached paper as the initial smell. Light toast thereafter.

Far more refreshing than I expected from the smell. It is clean and very dry initially. The hop comes in gradually culminating with the swallow leaving a lingering but not harsh aftertaste. I get straight up citrus, but not grapefruit. Overall, a very easy beer to like.

Captain Lawrence Sun Block Unfiltered Summer IPA, 5.8%abv, dry hopped with Sorachi Ace. Is Sum Block a line of beers, or did this one evolve?

Bottle marked Batch B 1316 369. Whatever that means.

Decent white head and lacing, pale yellow body. Very floral aroma. Perfumy, somewhere between asparagus pee and papaya. Flavor is hoppy in a raw, abrasive way. The lingering bitterness level is pleasant, but still the flavor is off-putting and hard to describe. Prickly, vegetal, and slightly chemical, I can't tell if the problem is phenolics or hop flavor. Good body and bitterness leads to a great mouthfeel, but it doesn't save the aroma and flavor.

Good IPA. Not heavy or too high ABV. Nice drink for the summer BBQ.
