Had this at the Sierra Nevada Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild festival on the fairgrounds behind the brewery in Chico, CA.
The beer is a wet hopped pale ale, using Nugget hops (hence the namesake). Pours a dark golden color with 1/3" white head and decent clarity for a wet hopped beer (not as clean as dried or pelletized hops appearance wise generally). Aroma of Nugget hops, you get that familiar rind and pine note, but amped up aroma compared to those characteristics that are often found in only bittering hops.
Taste is straight forward and how I prefer most wet hopped or single hopped beers. While they never indicated whether this was a single hopped beer (nor the abv), I would guess that it was a wet, single hopped beer, as the Nugget dominates throughout (as it should in a wet/single hopped beer) with its Simcoe like bitterness and Cascade/Chinook like pine/rind flavors. I tend to think Nugget works best as a single hop in maltier beers (amber ales a la Nugget Nectar). Wouldn't mind seeing someone do a retro crystal malt 100ibu beer hopped solely with Nuggets.
