A little preview of the Barrel Select series. The base of most of the Captain Lawrence brown sours is the St. Vincent Dubbel.

A: Slightly murky brown color. Quite a bit of yeast floating in suspension. Gotta love a cask wild ale.

S: You get quite a bit of oak in the nose. A little bit of sweetness with a touch of horse right behind it. Not really that strong at all though. You get a little bit of dark fruit in there as well. Little vanilla. Nose reminded me of Vagabound a little bit.

T: Big oak taste again. A little bit funky but it never really dominated the taste. For a CL wild this is not that sour at all. It is a touch tart but never approaches the levels of glandular assault that they are capable of. Little bit spicy in the finish. Again a touch of dark fruit thrown in there as well.

M: Fairly light bodied. Very low carbonation.

D: This could be a daily drinker for me. It had quite a bit of flavor that was all over the place. Funky, sour, oak. This is a nice example of the other way to go with a wild that I have been seeing more of as of late. Cannot wait for the barrel select release.

The beer pours a dark amber color with little to no head. The aroma is good. It has an excellent oak character that compliments pale an d crystal malt scents. The sourness is mild. The taste is good as well. It has a smooth almost amber ale flavor; pale and crystal malts. There is a nice oak presence as well as a mild sourness. It's light on the sour, making this a more approachable beer for those not in love with sours. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a low/medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a highly drinkable wild ale. It has more of a malt base and a lighter sour touch.

I drank this into a tasting glass at NoTB.

The beer is a light clear brown with a very watery looking head that is gone quickly and provides no lacing.

The aroma is medium but pretty one note with light horse blanket funk and at the end a touch of spice.

The taste is surprsing as it starts out sweet, something that is not expected at all. The sweet fades pretty quickly to a some nice sour, but not horse blanket just sour.

The feel is a little to watery for me, but a nice lasting finish and drinkablility.

Overall, a pretty decent sour as it provides some surprsing notes to it.
