Dark Chocolate Cherry – from Captain Lawrence. 16 fl oz can purchased from Franklin Beer Co, Franklin, PA, 24/04/24, $5.00 (Including tax), $ 0.313/fl oz. Reviewed 01/05/24 (Review 3266). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Printed on the bottom of the can “CANNED 12142023”. Stored in reefer at the distributor, 34 degrees at home. Served at 59.1 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 61.7 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Brown (SRM 20), barely translucent.
Body – Deep Brown (SRM 30), opaque. Under direct light, same but with heavy buff-colored sediment. When rear-lite, opaque.
Head – Average (Maximum 2.6 cm, aggressive center pour), buff, high density, average retention, leaving a 0.7 cm crown and cap constantly being renewed by carbonation.
Lacing –
Aroma – 3 – Virtually none – no roasted malt, no chocolate, no cherry. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol (10 % ABV as marked on the label).
Flavor – 3 – Begins markedly bitter, with distinctly more chocolate than cocoa flavor. As it warms further, the bitterness fades as does the chocolate. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol. Fleeting cherry. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Weak gastric warming.
Palate – 3.5 – Full; creamy; soft but lively carbonation.
Final Impression and summation: 3.5 When the flavor and aroma are less interesting than the appearance and the palate, something’s wrong.

Smooth and light with a strong chocolate flavoring. Not much cherry. Surprisingly light for the ABV.

Canned on: 12-9-22
A - Black pour with a solid layer of creamy, caramel foam resting on top.
S - Chocolate char with light cherry and cream.
T - Light chocolate roast, residual cherry, and alcohol. Finishes with some light bitter chocolate char, faint cherry, and a little bit of charcoal. There's some residual cherry underneath with a lingering sweet chocolate char over top.
M - Big medium body with prickly carbonation and a slight bit of alcohol presence.
O - Middle of the roadand I'm OK with that.

Pours looking like a tall glass of espresso with a decent light brown head. Sticky foam lace fingers coat the glass.
Smell and Taste resembles chocolate covered tart cherries. Surprisingly, no booziness at 10% ABV and not overly sweet.
Perfect level of carbonation. Not as "thick" as expected.
Yep! I'll be drinking this again.

Black pour thin tan head. Smells of bitter cocoa and ripe cherries. Taste is in line with aromas along with a dry finish and mild carbonation. Medium body. 10% is well hidden. Nice!

Pours nice dark brown almost black. Smell of coffee and hint of cherry. Taste of strong coffee a lot of bitterness hint of cherry. Overall to much bitterness for a stout but still drinkable. Worth trying. I got a 10oz pour wish it was 6 or 7

Solid black appearance with a thin lasting tan head.
Medium light carbonation, above average body with a creamy thick feel.
Aroma is cherry, vanilla, coffee, mildl dark chocolate
Taste is cherry which lingers in the aftertaste. Some dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Alcohol shows up to add some heat but still subdued.
Overall its a very good ,well done dessert beer

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of cherries, little else. Taste is roasted malts, cherries, light coffee, alcohol is well hidden. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall it ain't bad, but it lacked the chocolate in the name.

16 oz can....Bottom tells me this was "canned 12/9/22"
Pours a very dark shade of brown, under an equally dark mocha cap... The head here is large and quite long lasting. Leaves thicker and frothy foamy lacing all over the glass.
Getting dark chocolate, coffee grounds, vanilla, and cocoa on the sniff...more of the same in the mouth/on the palate .
Tasty, well crafted with all the flavors mingling and combining nicely.
Drinking great, an impressive feat for a 10% beer thats just been canned a week or so ago.
Nice winter sipper/night capper/dessert accompanier kinda beer. Would be great with some "death by chocolate" type cake....Mighty fine for the holidaze...go get some
