Notes:
The Commonwealth Fish & Beer Co. opened as the first brewpub in the area back in Aug. of 1986 under the name "Commonwealth Brewing Co.", recently changed the name / theme in September of 99'.

The brewery consists of a 24bbl brewhouse, which could be the oldest system in the NE, that was shipped over from England. There are several open tiled 12bbl fermenters and numerous conditioning tanks which give the brewer, Jeff Charnick, plenty of room to brew different ales as well as make the famous Special Old Ale. All of the brewing process is done in a traditional English manner, small additions of white sugar are used in most of the ales. We at BeerAdvocate think that Commonwealth brews the best cask ales in the area and even the cold conditioned ales are top notch.

Commonwealth has some ales served cold and always some on cask. Generally they have 4-5 cold and 3-4 on cask. When you go check if it is a game night at the Fleet center, the crowds might be spilling into the street trying to get in.

They are open until 12:30am though they have been know to want to close earlier on a slow night.

Head Brewer: Jeff Charnick
