First had: on tap at Oskar Blues Home Made Liquids & Solids, Longmont, CO
"Ew, ew, ew, no, no...*sips water*" was my lovely wife's reaction to this brew. I on the other hand, thought it was mighty good.
I wouldn't have guessed this was a stout from the pour, probably a Scotch ale or strong ale of some kind, but apparently it was indeed a stout. More of a cola color than a typical stout brown/black, with a minimal off-white head. Roasty malt aroma, with notes of coffee, vanilla, and dark sugars. Some alcohol in the nose. Taste was similar, sort of a hybrid of a stout and a Scotch ale. Dark roasty malts, bourbon, roasted coffee, vanilla. Strong--but not too strong--with a heavy-medium body that was a bit syrupy in the mouth. Good for a session, not so much for a whole night of drinking, obviously.

Had this beer on tap yesterday at Armsby Abbey in worcester and absolutely loved it!! Pours a dark rich coffee like color. Nose was amazing..hints of bourbon, vanilla and roasty. Taste is amazing, very similar to kbs, but a little less bold. Overall a excellent beer, my only hope is that this will some day be bottled. I was told it was one of 5 barrels in the country! Lets hope we see more of this one!

On tap at Max's today.
The beer pours a blackish brown color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is attractive, showing considerable vanilla, coffee and bourbon. The flavor profile generally replicates the nose in this moderately sweet oatmeal stout, except I get a lot more bourbon and dark chocolate. This beer is just delicious. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to full, with a fairly long, bourbon infused finish. Drinkability is pretty good, with the alcohol barely noticeable.
Like the killer penguin, I think the bourbon barrel aging works well with this beer. Very nice...
