Bottle, from the local grocery store, poured into a glass

A: Pretty golden beer. Looked really great. Perfect amount of head, left some lacing

S: CItrus, hoppy, a tiny bit of skunkiness

T: I really enjoyed this beer. A very clean taste that isn't overpowering. It didn't knock my socks off, but I like that quality in a good beer. Definitely some nice hops, some floral notes and not necessarily "citrus", but I'd say more orange peel(has that bitter to it). The finish was crisp and clean, with a little bitter on the palate.

M: About average, maybe a little high on the carbonation, but overall good

O: I really like this beer. I'l definitely buy it again. It's great for sitting around in the evening and having a few. I had five back-to-back, and they really went quick. I guess by standards it would be heavy on the ABV for a "session" beer, but that depends on the person's consumption habits. I could drink this all the time. I'd consider this a go-to beer if nothing else in the cooler jumps out at you.

On tap at Capone's on June 16th. Aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels. Poured into a snifter and allowed to warm to around cellar temperature before smelled or sampled. Reviewed from notes taken the night of the tasting.

The body is a hazy copper color that is light enough to create golden accents around the edges. The head is slight when it arrives, but it does leave wispy lacing about the edges.

The aroma is a bit muddled. Definitely strong on the hops, citrusy, floral, and dank notes spring from the glass, however, there are hints of oaky tannins that clash with the lively hop aromas. Vanilla comes through as well, sort of out on its own in the abstract bouquet. The flavor pulls itself together much more appropriately. Bourbon and vanilla do come through more as they highlight the caramel notes from the malt backbone, as the floral hops take over more from the citrus and add a bright characteristic to the flavor. Some warmth from the alcohol comes through, too.

The body is closer to barleywine than IPA, as it is sticky and full-bodied. Overall, this is a pretty solid beer, but I would have liked the hops to have faded a bit more to let the caramel malt base shine more with the barrel notes.

On tap at Capone's. Mojo IPA aged in a Woodford Reserve barrel.

Pours a moderate caramel color with a thin white head and some spotty lacing on the way down. The nose carries a little bit of smooth bourbon along with some strong citrus hops. Good integration. The flavor has a bit of smooth bourbon and some really light heat. Fairly-strong citrus hop profile as well. As it warms, there's a bit of mild oxidation and slight cardboard that takes away from the bourbon smoothness mixed in with a traditional IPA. Good bitterness in the finish. Another nicely-integrated bourbon hoppy beer, though not quite on the level of the BP Bourbon Tongue Buckler.
