Pretty good beer, but kinda sweet for a DIPA. Served with a medium sized, light tan head that settles to a light cover which does last a while and lots o lace. Color is an almost opaque, black ruby. Aroma is an odd combination of malt, roast, molasses, perfume, meat, and insect repellent. Flavor's like nose, hugely sweet (for a DIPA!), carbonic tang is behing the sweet by some distance and bitterness is beat way back. Body is decent; ditto carbonation. Finish is of average length and booze is well hidden.

Pours deep amber to black in color with a light tan head. In the aroma, a small roast and a note of hops. In the taste, a small pine like hop and a coffee like roast. A hop bite and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a dry pine hop in the aftertaste. Nice hops and a mellow roast, quite enjoyable.

Boulder Bad Moon Risin

Pours a dark black, oil slick. Dark khaki head forms. Aromas of roasted malt, malted milk balls, chocolate, and coffee. In the taste, more roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and a good helping of piney, earthy hops. A formidable brew with a solid alcohol content. Full bodied, silky smooth creamy feel. Medium-low carbonation. Overall, a big strong dark IPA, whats not to like?

On-tap at Mad Mex Robinson.

Black as night in my little snifter glass. Big beer, small pour. Beige head with some decent stick to the glass.

More sweet than hoppy in the aroma. Dark cereal grains, wet chalk, and piney hops.

Okay, the alcohol showed up. Great malt sweetness (that isn't overpowering) coupled with an earthy/pine hop flavor profile. Mega big and thick, too. Some citrus in the mix, like faint grapefruit, but this almost drinks like an imperial stout. Thick and chewy, and at 12%, showing some heat.

Excited to have tried this. A very good Black Ale. Cranked up a notch and it works well.

Bad Moon Risin' packs a wallop with a 12% ABV, and pours a dark brown with an amber hue that features a quickly dissipating tan head that leaves a good lace. Roasty malt aromas intermingle with some chocolate hints before giving way to some grapefruit-like citrus notes. This beer is amazingly well balanced, roasted malt in the front with memorable Risin' hop bitterness and tastiness in the finish, with a slight warming sensation provided by the high amount of alcohol. Lower carbonation and a medium to heavy body round out this rare treat. Happy little accident indeed, count yourself lucky if you are able to find this GREAT beer.
