Pleasant, highly quaffable, session ale. Relatively low in alcoholic strength and more-ish.
I have imbibed this reddish-hued beverage at two establishments in North London, namely the Pembury Tavern (Hackney) and the Oakdale Arms (Harringay). As with all cask ales, precise tasting notes vary slightly from cask to cask but the general taste is strong malt to start and finish, with a secondary dryness that continues to the end. Certainly very thirst-quenching in the summer months. If you are visiting either of the two aforementioned London pubs stocking this beer - my advice is to ring beforehand to check if the beer is available as they often refrain from brewing it for periods of a few months at a time. It is one of my favourite Milton beers.

The third beer tasted by half-pint at The Queens, Hornsey, N. London, during its first-ever, four-day British Beer Festival. Served by a handpump.
A: dark reddish amber in colour, very clear, coming with no beer head, which is slightly disappointing for a handpump-dispensed beer.
S: intriguing nose--a stinky edge of old honey comes hand in hand with a hay-ish wild aroma, reminiscent of a barn; touches of caramely malts stay in the background, with quite restrained hints of hops.
T: a sour-sweet, raw-chestnut like malty flavour is ensued closely by a caramel's bitter hints and mildly spicy aftertaste of chewy hops... subtly bitter finish, laced with more bitter hoppyness lingering at the back.
M&D: as the serving condition is not ideal, i.e. slightly warmer than it should be, the body and texture are flat and thin-ish. An easy-drinking session bitter, it could've been a good choice for a session bitter in summer, if not for the imperfect condition in which it's served.
