A: Gold colored brew has OK clarity and active carbonation. Small white head has good retention and leaves fair amounts of lace.
S: Toffee sweetness, plus a whiff of alcohol.
T: Toffee and caramel malts are front and center. Hops add a faint pepper bitterness that keeps the beer from being cloying. Finishes with a warm alcohol burn going down.
M: Medium body feels slick on the tongue. Carbonation level is right.
D: Not bad, but not something I have much interest in revisiting. Strength keeps me from drinking more than one.

Tasted at Rosie's Brewpub, Leadville, CO. "Hallertau and Mt. Hood hops"
Pours a nondescript clear amber with a little bit of head and no lacing. Aroma some fairly nice hop notes, some malt.
A sweetness at first which may be an effect of the increased alcohol, then some nicely balanced hop bitterness in the midpalate and finish. Not bad, but not interesting enough to drink two.

Rosie's first and most popular brew according to the owner/brewmaster is their stout. The appearance of this also popular brew is a golden amber with little foam, plenty of bubbles, and a faint aroma. Initial taste has notes of bitter unsweetened Lipton tea, with some malt, but predominant hops with the alcohol occasionally exposed by itself. The finish is very dry and acerbic. Overall, interesting, but not as good as their Mineral Belt Pale Ale.

While I haven't done the research, I'd be willing to bet that this is the highest brewed malt liquor in North America, and at 7.3 abv, that makes it a dangerous concotion. Rosie's first and most popular brew pours a dark gold with only a hint of head and lots of carbonation. The bouquet is clean and crisp, and there isn't much
volatility to give its character away--just right for the style.
The body is full and smooth: sweet with a dominant tea flavor that gives way to a bitter finish as it rolls off the tongue. The sweet and bitter balance each other well; though, occasionally, the tea flavor came across as too strong (like a bag of Darjeeling that's been left to seep just a little too long) and made me pucker. The carbonation gives a crisp, dry finish to the brew. The sweetness masks the alcohol well, and each successive pint goes down just as easily as the last: again, a dangerous concoction.
What this beer has earned in drinkability, it has sacrificed in complexity. The flavor character is as clearly revealed after three ounces as a pint. Of course, I had already finished a pint and a half by the time I realized this. Overall, a good brew to knock back at two miles high.
