Medici is a cult favourite from the Thornbridge catalogue and we thought the time was right to bring it back. This is a complex beer with a floral, citrus aroma which then mellows gently in the mouth as caramel and raisin come through. Creating a harmony of flavour.

#1823 - Blind-tasted except for the beer's name, ABV% and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
Note: the ABV on the bottle is marked 7.4% vs 7.2% in the Description^:
L- Deep red-brown, pours with slight haze and a 3mm fine-bubble beige cap.
S- Fruity right on the front, citrus, zesty - very unexpected for a Brown Ale!
T- Boom! Hops, dry, NEIPA style hoppy/fruit notes. Citrus, hints of grapefruit. Not much at all 'Brown Ale[y]' about this, more like a NEIPA that is brewed to turn out brown.
F- Quite rich, the ABV% is apparent on the palate, like an amped up NEIPA, or one to have in winter-time when the palate needs a bit more punch.
O- I haven't much time at all for NEIPA's and was expecting this to be a bit more 'Brown Ale[ish]'. But it seems more like an amped up version of the former than anything like the latter. Fortunately the ABV% is gutsy enough to balance out the excesses of the youthful citrus notes. It's still too citrus for me - I don't want to drink beer that tastes like grapefruit, doh! -. Disappointing but will find a younger fan-base I'm sure...
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! - Contains barley and wheat, nothing else of note there.
330ml bottle BB: 03/03/2022 £3 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.

330ml bottle.
L: Clear mahogany colour with a thin, off-white head.
S: Red berries and pomegranate aroma plus a hint of sweet vermouth.
T: Strawberry, plum and raisin. Semi-sweet but dry with an alcoholic kick.
F: Medium body and surprisingly high carbonation. Mouthfeel is very disappointing - thin and sharp.
O: A big, fruity, highly alcoholic brown ale with a weirdly lightweight mouthfeel.
NB. This is a July 21 revision of my earlier (April 21) review. Opened at cellar rather than fridge temperature, the complexity of this brown ale starts to emerge. The thin mouthfeel still ruins it though.
