A 500ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2016. A little out of date but I'm hoping a saison won't deteriorate too rapidly. This is the Thornbridge 2015 Homebrew Challenge winner, a rhubarb saison hopped with Northern Brewer, Saaz and Kent Goldings.
A: Poured into a tulip. Bottle conditioned. A hazy golden-amber with good carbonation and plenty of floating sediment. Yields a huge head of fluffy off-white foam that lasts for ages before settling as a thick surface layer. Classic.
S: Aroma of tart, fruity rhubarb with hints of lactic acid, saison yeast and subtle stewed hops. Mostly fruity but quite nice.
T: Tastes of sour rhubarb; distinctly fruity with notes of unripe apples, saison yeast, mild grain and faint stewed hops. Acidic but balanced and refreshing - similar to a Berliner Weisse.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Lightly acidic on the palate. Aftertaste of tart rhubarb and dry yeast.
O: A solid effort - good stuff. The rhubarb comes across well and forms the backbone of this beer's character. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are pleasant and balanced. Decent mouthfeel. An unusual style for Thornbridge, but stands out from the crowd.

Bottle shared thanks to kermis. Clear pale orange with a decent white head. Notes of red fruit, perfume, citrus hops, lemonade and honey. Medium body, light carbonation and sweet and lightly bitter finish.

Served at cellar temperature from 500ml brown bottle into straight weizen glass.
L) Pale orange-yellow colour, loads of floating debris in it, thin bubbly white head.
S) Smells like a typical Saison, with a definite hint of rhubarb. Can't believe I just typed that.
T) Sour, cleanish taste for a saison, not much 'funkiness'. The rhubarb taste is very subtle, comes more in the aftertaste.
F) Dry, fizzy mouthfeel. The sourness gives it a nice edge. No real off aftertastes. Carbonation is really good.
O) Really glad I took a bit of a risk out of my normal comfort zone to buy this one, it hasn't let me down. Recommended.

Pours cloudy orange/yellow with moderate lacy white head. Neutral smell. Citrusy and peppery with rhubarb and yeast flavors. Finishes with a dry bitterness

Pours a cloudy (very cloudy!) orange with a thin, white head.
Lots of yeast on the nose. Cloves, ripe banana, wheat.
Flavour is sour and yeasty. Lots of zip. Spicy. Very refreshing.
Thin mouthfeel saved by a good level of carbonation. Sourness is lip smacking and persistent.
A good sour beer. Did I mention this beer is sour? Quite strident. I couldn't taste any obvious rhubarb but I'm sure it's there. Would have liked a richer mouthfeel. Excellent initial level of carbonation reduces quite quickly and would go flat if not drunk at a decent pace.
