Pungent hop notes of lemongrass and juicy oranges balance the enticing dark colour of Valravn.

Crusty linen foam over ruby brown. 4
Mint, ash, and candied dates. 4
Root beer, licorice whips, meat juice, rye sourdough, and grape soda, then orange oil, slight dank and lingering pine. 4
Medium, sticky, chewy. 4

Deep and dark - black notes more than hops and those hops are resiny. Doesn’t really justify the 8.8%. I’d rather have Wild Raven. 3.75

Brown color with red hues, beige head. Aroma is really dank with cabbage notes and some cheese. Taste starts slightly sweet with some sugar and caramel, continues with dark malts and some cacao, finishes with roasted malt bitterness and some hop resin on top. Medium body and carbonation, quite smooth mouthfeel. Overall it's a quite weird beer. The taste is nice but the aroma does not fit.

From one of Thornbridge's new, smaller, 330ml bottles.
L: Dark brown with a ruby edge when held to the light. The one finger of light coffee colour head reduces slowly to leave rings of lacing.
S: Spicy hops, wood, & lemon zest.
T: Semi-sweet, soft liquorice, citrus and alcohol.
F: Medium body, a little gassy. Dry, astringent, bitter finish. Warm alcohol.
O: Tons of New Zealand, American and Japanese hops in his dark & bitter beer. Hops dominate. Dark malt flavours are overwhelmed. But that's a Black IPA for you. (There's a chance my ratings reflect this is not my favourite style...)
