(Notes of 10/2007) The 3rd beer tasted at the 2007 Sheffield Beer Festival, by a half-pint with a gravity pour.
A: pale golden in colour with great clarity and low carbonation, topped with a super thick and huge spongy white head lasting throughout the drink.
S: the aroma is packed with hops, uncompromisingly, showing lots and lots of grapefruity citrusness, lemons, and a healthy input of sourness sneaking through from the background. Hops dominate the theme overall, leaving very little space for malts to struggle through.
T: zesty-dry, bitter, and citric-sour at first, leading towards an intensifying middle of deep-running but light-bodied biscuity malts, then a spicy edge as of ginger lingers until the very end of tasting. The complex undertones of dry & chewy citrus zests and pale malt flavour come along with a 3D mouthfeel rendered by bucketfuls of hops... Sublime.
M&D: superbly balanced and yet utterly dry & deliciously hoppy, this softly-carbonated, beautifully crafted pale ale is definitely a perfect choice as a session ale.
