Vicious Circle was produced with our great friends at Burning Sky. We brewed a classic golden ale which was initially fermented with a neutral yeast strain, the beer was then aged in white Burgundy barrels in our barrel room, having been inoculated with a mixed culture including Brettanomyces and lactobacillus. The resulting beer is complex and slightly tart, with hints of ripe peach and melon.

375 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.4%. Slightly hazy pale golden colour, small and shortlived white head. Distinct aroma of farmhouse, lactic acid, oak and dry white wine. Very moderate carbonation. The flavour is moderately sour and slightly tart, with notes of brettanomyces, lactic acid, oak, mild spices and dry white wine.

375ml bottle. Hazy, orange and still. Smells of cyder vinegar. Taste is orange squash and battery acid. Mouthfeel is sharp but clean. Label states this is a ‘white burgundy barrel aged golden ale’. There’s a lot of thought put into this beer and I’m sure it will develop with age but it needs to be allowed to develop. How long was it aged in the barrel? The bottle I have has a BBD of July 2023 and I’m sure it will be smoother, richer and more complex in 2 years time.
