L- Effectively black, though when held right by a haolgen bulb it us uuuultra deep ruby-reb. Pours with eager head, er, I mean eager to form head. Mid-tan creamy that after a few minutes is still 50%, now undulating and with a fre 'pock-marks' formed. Lacing is just forming and I expect will cont. on the way down. In short: Looks great.
S- Deep roasty-toasty, minor smoke/charring.
T- Oh nice, something different! Charring, deeply roasty, then I get what comes over initially as a clear ABV%-zing on my palate. So I was sitting here thinking: 'Well that's unexpected, an ABV%-zing from just 7.2%, that's very low for that to happen.' Then I realise it's actually the zing of quite solid bright hopping, that within the deep flavour background can almost imitate much higher ABV% (I have had this happen before). ps. As it warms a touch I start noting a coffee facet.
F- It's punchy, it's a slow-sipping beer for me, too impactful to rush. Overall it's comes down on the slightly hoppier/dry side of the feel spectrum.
O- I hesitate at buying Thornbridge beer as they can be too contemporary hops-wise for my taste. I bought this as I thought a 7.2% Stout had good hope. I'm glad I did, it's something different, a big punchy stout with notable but in-balance modern hopping. Well crafted, nothing to offend even for those with more trad tastes.
Bought from Wholefoods, London 440ml can £4.29 BB: 21/02/23 (Packed 21/02/22)

On tap (keg) at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Black colour, huge tan head. Aroma of moderately roasted malts, chocolate and mild coffee. Soft mouthfeel. Medium dry flavour, roast malts, chocolate and mild coffee again, moderate American bittering hops in the finish.
