Huge thanks to Dan for sharing this incredibly obscure beer - this beer was bottled in 2006, and yet it has never been reviewed. Poured into a medium-sized Duvel tulip.
A: Black body with brown highlights and a nice cap of fine light brown foam. Good retention, spotty lace. Solid - especially for its age.
S: An initial blast of weird olive (!) character eventually mellows into a rich, spicy whisky. Candied cereal lends serious sweetness midway through, followed by some vanilla oak. Crazy, and rather fascinating.
T: Fruity and spiritous up front, with the whisky asserting itself nicely toward the end with malt and oak. Lovely, dry Scotch finish. It's all about the whisky, and I'm kind of loving it.
M: Medium body, creamy carbonation. A little to froth, but nice.
O: This was a weird one, but in the end I was entirely won over. Scotch-barrel beers have been hit or miss in my experience, and this one was definitely a hit.
Cheers!
