Aroma: Spices are strong and upfront. Anise is probably the strongest giving a firm black licorice note. Other Christmas type spices are noted as well, but hard to pick out. Ginger? Nutmeg? Mace? I think they might have gotten a bit heavy handed with the spices.
Appearance: Very black with some clarity noted at the edges. A thin collar and scant lace, but this is the second pour off the growler.
Flavor: Again, the spices are upfront and in your face. At the edge of too much, but enjoyable. Hard to get anything under it, maybe a Schwarzbier base?
Mouthfeel: Medium to light body, slightly oily in the finish. I wont commend on carbonation as again, this is the second pour.
Overall Impression: A really nice, if a bit too spicy Christmas beer. Glad I got the growler!
