Brewers Notes
"Like a slumbering bear this Imperial Stout aged in whiskey barrels for nine months before moving into port barrels for another few months of rest. We added a kiss of orange peel, copious amounts of cacao nibs and Handlebar Coffee from right here in Santa Barbara. This beer is a nod to our new family at Epic Brewing, but created with just the right touches to keep it Uniquely Californian."
Light proof black colored beer with a tall brown head. It is certainly dark.
Smells sweet with a strong scent of cocoa powder and coffee. Smells like bittersweet chocolate. There is some vanilla and caramel in this too. As it warms a bit the scent of berries comes out. Lesser scent of black pepper.
Starts out sweet and thick with a quite upfront taste of whiskey. Vanilla, Caramel, Chocolate, Coffee and Coconut are the strong flavors here. Definitely boozy. Mild bitterness but it isn't hoppy. Mostly it is chocolate and whiskey flavored. Strong warming in the stomach and chest from the alcohol level. Drink a much of this and you are in for a ride!
Mouthfeel is certainly thick.
Overall it is dangerously easy to drink. It stacks up favorably with all the other barrel aged stouts out there.
