Reviewed from notes; originally 6/7/11.
A-Served in a tulip with a coffee brown color and two fingers of brown head.
S-Smells mostly of vanilla, bourbon notes with a hint of sour character.
T-Sour cherry and leather upfront with some light bourbon and dark chocolate notes.
M-Thin and a over-carbonated. Not very pleasant.
D-I'm wondering if this is a keg that was infected and soured with age since this is a retired beer. If not that, then the establishment I had this at (Twisted Spoke in Chicago) needs clean their tap lines out better.

I was disappointed with this beer, though I did finish the 750ml bottle. It was somewhat watery, rather than the robustness I was expecting. It's aftertaste was all but non-existent. Its flavor was non off-putting; rather, it was underwhelming.
The beer is certainly drinkable. However, unless this is the only beer in the case that isn't "gas station" beer, I probably won't buy it again.

Has this on tap at Delirium Cafe's Telgraph fest.
The beer arrived with no head whatsoever! Though the color was a very dark (possibly dark amber) color but as stated before, no head at all.
The scent (at least in my case) was very subtle. Whiskey and some oak but very faint.
The taste was bourbon/whiskey all the way. Marker's Mark & Knob Creek quickly sprung to mind. Little bitterness and mostly a malty flavor. As the beer sat and warmed up a little vanilla flavor started to show through.
Somewhat thin to medium bodied. Was expecting more of a hearty mouthfeel to it. Carbonation levels were staggeringly low as well.
While it's a drinkable brew (for those enjoying bourbon/whiskey) I wouldn't want to have another pint afterwards. Very little carbonation certainly helped this beer in struggling to shine.

Sampled at Lucky Baldwin's on the first night of their Telegraph "festival" (6 Telegraph beers on tap) in Late May 2008. Served in the festival glassware-- a Telegraph-branded 16 oz. tumbler. Printed literature at the bar indicates this beer has a very limited availability.
Appearance:
Opaque black body with umber highlights at the edges. And absolutely no head. No skin of foam, no collar of bubbles, nothing.
Smell:
The barrel-aged pedigree is right up front. Nose is mostly oak and dry red wine, with roasted malt, a hint of charcoal, and a prominent sour edge.
Taste:
Oaky black malt to start, with plenty of boozy whiskey flavor. Vanilla comes through in the middle as the beer warms. There's tartness at the edges, and the finish adds a subtle herbal note something like tarragon. Seems very unbalanced.
Mouthfeel:
There is almost no carbonation to this beer, and it could really use more. Medium body. The tart edge keeps the beer from getting too milky in the absence of carbonation.
Drinkability:
Not so much. There are good flavors here, but it's a bit of a struggle to appreciate them through all the tartness. The lack of carbonation is a real drawback.
