500ml bottle served slightly chilled in a Belfast Beer Festival 2005 imperial pint glass
Pours with a rich ruby red body, slightly dirty and hazy from the bottle conditioning. Fuzzy off white head with poor retention... soon there's little more than a thin whisp around the edges. Almost no lacing to speak of
Smell, heavily oxidised, strong note of a buttery diacetyl character on the nose. Some hints of smokey malt and a few sweet esters, sugary prunes and figs. Little bit of mustiness also
Taste, fairly chalky mouthfeel, some spicy malt character. Little hop profile, some iron oxide character once again.... reminds me of rusty nails
Rust around the cap again... this is the 3rd or 4th beer from this brewery thats had oxidisation and cap sealant problems. I'd say that fresh on cask this beer could be great however since by the time I get it bottled its been oxidised its not showing its true character

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
