On cask at the 2011 Belfast Beer Festival.

Opaque black with insistent tan froth. Sharp roasty espresso bean nose with hints of orange rind.
Raisin, brown sugar, soil, a bit of ash and earth, then orange oil hops ending.
Roasty bite to finish and lingering leanness. Clingy, oily, medium, and chewy.

Sweetness in the roast: coffee leads to an ending that shows both roast and hops. To style in that there is some orange with the cocoa nibs, but it is more "black" than "IPA".

March 2014: 500 ml bottle conditioned, thanks to my beerpal Olav. Gyle: Oxy015. ABV is 5.5%. Very dark brown colour, large beige head. Roasty aroma, notes of woodwork and burnt breadcrumbs, some undefined hops. Dry and slightly acidic flavour, notes of woodwork, bitter hops, ashes and burnt breadcrumbs again. Could have been better.

On cask at The Rake in London (a gem of a beer bar), Oxymoron is brown tan head leaving light, sticky lace.
Smell is sweet brown malty caramel and big herbal hops. Nice.
Taste is firmly bitter and much less sweet than the nose. Herbal and resinous. A brown IPA on cask, hell yeah!
Mouthfeel is dry, slippery, medium bodied.
Drinkability is high. Delicious, big taste, balanced. Best of trip, loved this beer. I'd call it an American Brown though more than Black.

Poured from cask into a pint glass at a pub in Cardiff.

Pours a deep black colour with a smooth head, looks very much like a Guinness with the same colour and creamy looking texture.

Smells pretty malty and rich. Burnt odours too.

Tastes pretty good, quite sweet in a dark, intense caramel way, and roasty too on the finish.

Overall pretty good, quite heavy though so it fills you up. Went quite well with my £3 stew and dumplings.

Handpump halfpint at the Rake.

A: Nearly black body that glows vermillion when held up to light; one finger of persistent tan head. Lovely.

S: Coffee + caramel malt. Nice, but a little simple and overly direct; where are the hops?

T: Crazy. Coffee is here, but the dominant flavor is pure balsam fir - this tastes just like a Christmas tree. Crazy herbal, bitter finish. It's rather insane, and totally fun.

M: Typical cask: smooth, soft, medium body with barely-there carbonation.

O: First off, I love this beer's name - perfect for the style, if you call the style a Black IPA. My initial reaction to the aroma was confusion, as it smelled much more like a porter than a BIPA, but one sip was all it took to show that this is most decidedly a hoppy brew. I've never had anything that delivered this particular flavor - I've had pine, I've had spruce, but this is my first all-out fir beer. I rather enjoyed it.

Cheers!
